Rotation 2.4 Winter, Harrow

It's winter and the holidays season has arrived. The lower class sims haven't really had the time or resources to celebrate, but at least the middle-class families can decorate and have some Santa cookies.

Julia is expecting her second child, but since the Harrows already have a son, they don't need to stress about it too much.

It's Sunday so they don't need to tend to the shop, and instead Cecil is spending time studying magic. Julia rolled up the want to become a witch, and I want him to be able to transform her as soon as possible. After the near-brush with the Akers, I'd like to have a midwife ready to go.

Witches on the light path have a spell to banish the grim reaper, so theoretically she'd be able to save mothers from death by childbirth.

Even though she'd pregnant, Julia has been in a wonderful mood, and she's looking forward to the arrival of her second child. Now that the family name is secured, she's hoping for a daughter.

Cecil meanwhile is one of the most involved dads int he neighbourhood so far. he doesn't roll up many related wants, but he checks in on his son several times a day.

Cedric grows up and is on his way to becoming a well-adjusted kid. he might even get to learn some of those elusive toddler skills! Cecil can mostly manage to shop on his own, so Julia is spending all the time she can with her son.

I thought she still had a day left, but rather unexpectedly Julia goes into labour in the middle of the day.

I didn't think much about it but then chaos broke out in the shop with Cedric freaking out and the customers losing stars....

...And I realized this had happened. Just after Daisy Akers too. Cecil didn't even have time to run over and beg for her life.

So much for needing a midwife. And everything was going so well for them! Neither of the children are even old enough to remember her :(

The baby is a girl whom Cecil names Jane. She has light blue eyes and her mother's blonde hair.

Cecil calls over a nanny while I consult the rule book. The rules say trader families can't have live-in or NPC servants, but Cecil isn't supposed to do all the child-raring himself, either. Ideally they'd have a family member move in to help them, but there's no one available in the neighbourhood. Secondly he should put himself back on the marriage market and look for a wife, but again, this hood is one rotation old and there's no-one available.

So it's the nanny for now, and she immediately proceeds to remind me why I *refuse* to use the nannies in my game. good gracious. The floor is littered with baby bottles, the potty chair is full, and after taking a bath she sat down to play chess for the rest of the evening.

The children are too young to remember their mother, but at least they're spared the pain of grief. Poor Cedric. he had it all for a while there. A developing business, a loving wife, and children to carry on his name. Now everything seems uncertain. And without a midwife the other women in the neighborhood are more at risk as well.

Dissatisfied with the service offered by the nanny, Cecil looks for other options. The vicarage has recently been filled and they're offering to take in orphaned children, but Cecil is still an established middle-class merchant who can afford to support his children and has no intention of giving them up. So they agree that the vicar's wife, Margaret Graves, will come over and help with the children until they're a bit older.

From time to time Margaret senses the presence of the lady of the house, but so far Julia is a peaceful ghost. Tragic even, mourning the loss of her family and the life she never had. But ghosts grow restless and Margaret urges Cecil to have Julia moved to the graveyard as soon as possible before she tries to contact the children.

The household is somber but peaceful, and eventually Jane grows up into a happy toddler, knowing nothing of the tragedy of her early life. She seems to take after her mother a lot.

And so does Cedric. He rolls fortune/family and inherits the virtuoso and light sleeper traits from his parents.

And that's it for winter. Hopefully spring will bring with it happier times.
